Candelo, in 2001, received from the hands of the Italian Republic President, the title of "city" just for its touristic-cultural merits.
It is now a major attractive site in the environment, so proved by the increasing success of events as "Candelo in Fiore" (Flowers in Candelo"), "Sapor di Medioevo" ("Taste of Middle Ages"), "Vinincontro" ("Wines Meeting") and further more by some quality certificates obtained in the last years such as entering the guide of "the most beautiful hamlets of Italy" (ANCI 2002-2003), the "Orange Flag" (TCI 2007) and the regional nomination as "Gems of Piedmont" (2008).

Ricetto of Candelo
The Ricetto is unique in Europe: the Medieval hamlet, built between the 13th and 14th century, is a late medieval fortified structure built by local population; Ricetto of Candelo has a great cultural value because is a fundamental element of historic and cultural heritage of Piedmont and of rural Middle Ages, as well as destination of thousand of tourists and source of interests for local and international media.
It is a structure mirror of its community, that strikes both for its own architectural features and for the extraordinary state of preservation.
The city of Candelo possess a large part of the wild and fascinating plateau named "baraggia", with very special geological and botanic features. A part of it, named "Baraggione" ("Big Baraggia"), is very panoramic: it is a hundred meters long balcony, dropping down steeply in the river Cervo bank. There are many paths under the shadow of secular oaks, all easily walkable, where you can also enjoy to cycle, ride or do some trekking.
